Raksha Bandhan is not about honoring the special bond shared between siblings but Raksha bandhan is about sharing bonding and friendship among people, it’s about sharing peace and harmony, and it is a way of building love between people and wishing well for them. "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Transgender Ke Saath" From being an underdog on the world stage to writing incredible winning stories across the globe, We have come a long in ours 75 years as an independent country. We wish every Indian a Happy Independence Day. Kolkata Rista was also felt proud to celebrate India's 75 years of Independence with it's own way where our residents from Garima Greh with other Community members celebrated Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with a cultural program in which our Garima Greh's cultural group presented the actual situation of Transgender people through a beautiful dance performance. There was also a healthy discussion in front of a discussion panelists covered by some honorable guest, in this discussion all of our residence and other community people discussed the actual present scenario of Transgender people in Kolkata, West Bengal. It was mainly a open discussion where everyone shares their experiences.
Sindoor Khela, earlier used to be a simple ritual performed by married elderly and young women. Only married women used to celebrate the festival joyously and put Sindoor all over each other's faces while dancing to the beats of the "Dhaaki" drummers at the Durga Puja festival but the concept had changed now as Kankurgachi Milon Mela Somity celebrated this event at Kankurgachi with transgender community members of our Garima Greh and also other members of our organization and with widow women in this year on their own ground, where Mr. Joy Sengupta and other members of the club took the large initiative to conduct this event. #NoConditionsApply
Diwali celebration at Kolkata Rista! Diwali is all about the small special moments we create with our beloved ones - whether it's decorating the house with diyas or distributing mithais together. For all of us, Diwali is a reminder of his love for his parents and the celebration of togetherness. Residents of our Garima Greh and other members of our organization have crafted colorful diyas to light up the Diwali vibes at our office premises. Everyone participated in everything from making Rangoli to Diwali Celebration.
Bhai Dooj, Bhaubeej, Bhai Tika, Bhai Phonta or Bhratri Dwitiya is a festival celebrated by Hindus on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) in the Vikram Samvat Hindu calendar or of Shalivahan Shaka calendar month of Kartika. It is celebrated during the Diwali or Tihar festival and Holi festival. Our residents of Garima Greh celebrated this event with enthusiasm and lots of energy as some of them got their brothers.
Kolkata Rista organized a two-day based workshop on Transgender Act and Right to Information Act on 11th November 2022 for all the residents of Garima Greh at its own premises. For today’s workshop, Jashodhara Dasgupta was the resource person. All the residents participated actively and got more knowledge about Transgender Act, and Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules 2020. The training was very interactive and participants also shared their views & experience and also asked questions to our facilitator and questions were answered.
Throughout this programme there were some interactive discussions of some designated persons like Prof. Dr. D.N. Goswami Sir, former Joint Director of CST Division and a specialist on HIV & AIDS; Dr. Shanta Dutta madam, director of NICED; Dr. Subrata Biswas Sir, Project Coordinator of NICED and Ms. Piyali Ghosh madam, Project Scientist B; Ms. Moumita Majumder Madam, District Project Manager of WBSAP&CS and other doctors and researchers where they share the real situations of India as well as West Bengal on the aspect of HIV & AIDS, equalization & zero discrimination of every human being and some National Strategy Plan for HIV & AIDS prevention and control. Three short films on the struggling story of our Garima Greh residents were also shown. Then a dance drama performance on how HIV affects a human life was also performed by Dance Group of Kolkata Rista.
On this occasion of World AIDS Day, we Team Kolkata Rista wear a red ribbon and lighted up candles lights to remember people who were devastated by this disease, particularly the LGBTQI+ people and people who lost their lives in the brunt of this epidemic and how far we’ve come, the work that's left. We also sang a song at the end by remembering the value of lost life.
